Launching of LibanPack
Launching of LIBANPACK, the Lebanese Packaging Center

On Wednesday April 1st 2009, UNIDO MACLE Project and Association of Lebanese Industrialists launched the new Lebanese Packaging Center LibanPack at Movenpick Hotel in the presence and under the patronage of H.E Mohammad Safadi the Minister of Economy and Trade, and with the participation of H.E Francois Barras the Swiss Ambassador.

After The welcome Remarks by Ms. Atallah , National Project Coordinator of UNIDO MACLE Project who stressed that the establishment of LibanPack is a major achievement of the MACLE Project , a speech was conducted by H.E Minister Safadi saying that all the Lebanese people have always been distinguished for their creativity in this field compared to other countries in the region . However, he said, they have not been very concerned lately with the improvement of their products, especially in terms of branding and labeling because of the political challenges that Lebanon has faced for the past 30 days .H.E. Mr. Safadi added that attaining a good standard of product branding and labeling would increase the competitiveness of Lebanese product abroad, and this would reflect positively on the Lebanese economy.

In his turn, H.E Mr. Barras focused in his speech on the major role of his country Switzerland in supporting and financing the MACLE Project & LibanPack. He said that such programs will attract businessman and encourages the links between industrial and economic sectors concerned with packaging.

Mr. Fadi Abboud, president of the Lebanese industrialists Association discussed the need of products’ packaging and labeling in preserving Lebanon Industrial products. Mr. Abboud emphasized on the importance of branding and labeling to comply with the international quality standards is a great step toward a better manufacturing industry and healthy economy.

Mr. Khaled Mekwad , UNIDO Representative talked about the positive effect that the project is having on Lebanese Industry , by increasing Lebanese exports and their ability to access new markets.
Same for Mr. Fadi Gemayel ,president of LibanPack explained that LibanPack will be a dynamic center in creating links and shared experience among all the parties concerned in packaging.
As for Mr. Patacconi, the project Manager of UNIDO MACLE Project in Vienna , presented the main activities and achievement of the MACLE Project in the packaging field
Around 180 persons from the private and the public sector attended the launching event that was followed by a conference on Packaging presented by Mr. Fabrice Peltier, the President of the French National Packaging Design Institute and Mrs Lemia Thabet, the director of Packtec (Tunisian Packaging Center) and Mrs. Nell Abu Ghazale, the manager of LibanPack

Mr. Fabrice discussed the importance of innovation in packaging and explained the difference between a new product and a new package where the package differentiates similar products. He also explained the importance of packaging on the impact of market sale and market access
Miss Lemia presented the Tunisian packaging technical center Packtec discussing its role, events ,International references and their partners . She also gave some figures about the packaging industry in Tunisia and the industrial upgrading program.
As for Ms. Abou Ghazale she described the main objectives and services of LibanPack stressing that Libanpack offers all these services to its members at preferential prices.
