Lebanon Student Starpack 2015

LibanPack, the Lebanese Packaging Center has organized the Award Ceremony and Exhibition of Lebanon Student StarPack 2015 for the sixth year in a row, with the support of the Association of Lebanese Industrialists (ALI), and UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization). This year, 200 students from Lebanese leading universities have participated in the contest.

The Award Ceremony took place at the UNESCO Palace on June 11, 2015 at 6 PM under the Patronage and presence of H.E, the Minister of Industry, Dr. Hussein Al Haj Hassan. The ceremony was attended by significant audience from industrialists, ambassadors, representative of economic associations, professors and students.
The award ceremony was followed by an exhibition that featured the innovative projects of the participating students.

Ms. Soha Atallah, LibanPack Director, inaugurated the ceremony and explained the difficulties and the challenges that LibanPack faced to organize and proceed with Lebanon Student Starpack. Ms Atallah added that LibanPack insisted to organize Lebanon Student Starpack in order to continue its mission in spreading the Packaging & the Lebanese industry culture (…)
Ms Atallah highlighted on the importance of LibanPack as a Lebanese Center for the service of the Lebanese Industry.
Ms Atallah explained about the marketing role of packaging as “the silent salesman that differentiates the product from its competitor (…).”

Ms. Atallah concluded that StarPack competition is the first of its kind in the Arab world.



In his speech, Dr. Fady Gemayel, President of ALI and President of the LibanPack stated that “LibanPack has declared himself as a reference and specialist in the packaging field which has become a need and a basic requirement for product competitiveness in domestic and foreign markets”.
Dr Gemayel added that “the deep connection between LibanPack & ALI leads us with the participation of SOPIL and UNIDO and under the Patronage of the Ministry of Industry to the peak of creativity of University students.
Dr. Gemayel mentioned the important role of packaging in the selling process and in competition. “Packaging has become an integral part of the product (…)”as he added.
Dr Gemayel mentioned the economic challenges facing the Lebanese Industry and concluded that “the strength of the Lebanese economy lies in the united effort of Industrialists, Universities & students (…)


During the Ceremony, His Excellency, the Minister of Industry, Dr. Hussein Al-Haj Hassan mentioned the importance of the young talent in Lebanese universities and their impact on the Lebanese industry.
He spoke on the difficult situation experienced by the country and the financial crisis experienced by LibanPack and expressed its commitment to provide support to the center in order to complete his career and his service in the industry.
The minister added that “Lebanon is going through a critical political and security period (...) in the hope not last long.

Mr. Naji Boulos , General Manager of Memac Ogilvy and Vice President of the International Advertising Association in Middle East and North Africa -MENA region, highlighted  the importance of packaging  for consumer
Mr. Boulos is also a member of the Jury of StarPack Competition and he explained all the criteria that was adopted to grade the students project and to select the winners.

The ceremony was presented by Ms.  Jessy Trad Kastoun, and included a distinctive music performance by “the Sticky Notes”- University students from BAU.

The competition was divided into two categories: the visual design category and the structural design category for packaging. Furthermore a prize for creative Packaging design was awarded by Unipak, and another as Sanita Design Award by Sanita.

1 st Prize Winner:  Hanane Rmaity- LAU, Beirut
2 nd Prize Winner: Leen Charara- LAU, Beirut
3 rd Prize Winner:  Saidy Clint- LAU, Byblos
Visual Category Winners:
1 st Prize Winner:  Rabih Ramadan- RHU
2 nd Prize Winner: Rayan Cheayto- LU, Hadath
3 rd Prize Winner:  Mariam Hamdan- LIU
Unipak Creative Packaging Design Award: Noura Nassar- LAU, Beirut
Sanita Design Award:  Ihab Serhan- LIU
